Take all the break you need. As long as it’s nothing, I’ll look forward to these when they drop. I’ve enjoyed them all. And you somehow inspired me to rewatch THE ISLAND and that’s not nothing.
Thanks for everything so far. Look forward to more when there’s more.
Good news for those of us (me!) who need to have a proper delve through your archive to catch up on all I’ve missed. Occasional but longer sounds like an excellent plan - getting something published every single week is no mean feat that’s for sure.
This is the best thing on the internet, Ray - no hyperbole whatsoever. I will miss getting a new piece every week but will take whatever you’re willing to dish out at whatever rate you can manage. Congrats on maintaining the site so well for a year and take care
It's so easy to burn out as a creator, which is why I only post movie reviews every other week.
I have too many irons in the fire to do otherwise.
Everyone deserves a break. That way you'll keep enjoying what you do, instead of considering it a burden that must be carried out no matter how painful.
Thanks for the work you do. I love your reviews, but take care of yourself, too.
This is my favourite film review destination not only on Substack but on the Internet more generally. I am not sure how I discovered it—maybe a post floated by on Notes—but I am glad I did. Thanks for the essays and I hope there will be many more to come, even if they are less frequent.
Looking forward to whatever floats your boat next, Ray. And thank you so very much for the Michael Ritchie pieces; fabulous each and every one of 'em, and a great reminder to get them watched again.
Thanks for sharing all the Michael Ritchie films and others with us. This was a great run. Here;s some intermission music for your well-deserved rest: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DxtmQDCyLE8
Well done. I'd be totally here for some TV stuff -- I feel like besides the gazillion filmstacks, TV doesn't get as much attention here as it deserves.
I totally get the feeling of wondering if I still loved that which I had devoted ten years to prior. I got into that quandary a couple of years back and still haven’t fully recovered.

I get it. More time to brood.

If you never write another word here besides what you’ve put down already, dayenu.
I’ll read anything you write with pleasure. And if you go somewhere else, let us know.
